Qualifying for NHS Entitlement

Are You Entitled to a Free Eye Examination?

NHS-Entitlement-mcbride-mccreesh-opticiansYou Qualify for a Free NHS-Funded Eye Test at McBride and McCreesh Opticians If:

• You are under 19 years of age and are in full time education
• You are aged 60 or over
• You are registered as partially sighted (sight impaired) or blind (severely sight impaired)
• You have been diagnosed with diabetes
• You have been diagnosed with glaucoma
• You are 40 or over, and your mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter has been diagnosed with glaucoma
• You have been advised by an ophthalmologist that you are at risk of glaucoma
• You have a complex prescription (our optician will advise you about this)

You Are Also Entitled to a Free NHS Sight Test at McBride and McCreesh Opticians If You:

• Receive Income Support
• Receive Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (not Contribution-based)
• Receive Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
• Receive Income-based Employment and Support Allowance (not Contribution-based)
• Are awarded Universal Credit
• Are entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate
• Are named on a valid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2). People named on an NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3) may also get help.

Please note; that you must produce your Northern Ireland Health and Care Number (H & C Number) at the time of your appointment. If you fail to do so, your eye test will not be free of charge.

Am I Entitled to an NHS Optical Voucher?

You May Qualify for Help with the Cost of Your Glasses or Contact Lenses If:

• You are under 19 years of age and are in full time education
• You are eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher (our optician will advise you about this)

You May Also Receive an NHS Optical Voucher If:

• You receive Income Support or Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (not contribution-based)
• You receive Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
• You receive Income-based Employment and Support Allowance
• You are awarded Universal Credit
• You are entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate
• You are named on a valid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2). People named on an NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3) may also get help.

Glasses and Contact Lenses

If you need new glasses or contact lenses, and qualify for help with the cost, you will be given an NHS Optical Voucher along with your prescription. Please show proof of your entitlement to a member of our team. McBride and McCreesh Opticians will dispense standard single vision lenses or bifocal lenses at no extra charge. Should you wish to upgrade your frame, lenses or lens coating, you can simply pay the difference.

Please note; that you must produce your Northern Ireland Health and Care Number (H & C Number) at the time of your appointment. If you fail to do so, you will not be able to use your entitlement.
